For people with tinnitus
Music and sleep sounds, tuned to your tinnitus. Find your pitch, then listen to your own music or fifteen live sleep sounds with that pitch notched out.
Free, no ads, no account. Android 9 or newer. Coming soon to Google Play.

Aural Rest is built around one idea from tinnitus research: listening to sound with your own tinnitus pitch removed. Or turn the notch off and enjoy it simply as a music player, sleep machine and visualizer.
A short guided match finds the pitch of your tinnitus, with an octave check, because many people land an octave off. Match each ear on its own if they ring at different pitches.
Your music or a generated sound plays with a band around your pitch removed. Headphones give each ear its own notch; the phone speaker covers both.
Browse the music on your phone by song, artist, album or playlist. Search, play next, a queue you can reorder, .m3u playlists, and one-tap notch on and off.
A full-screen visualizer with bars, waterfall, scope and radial views shows the band being removed, with an outline of exactly what was taken out.
Fifteen live sounds, from rain and waterfall to fan and airplane cabin. Mix them, play all night or on a fading timer, with a dim bedside clock.
Daily listening time against your goal, a weekly check-in for loudness, bother and sleep, and a test that times how long the ringing stays quieter after sound.
Swipe through the app: matching your tone, notched music and sounds, the visualizer, sleep and progress.

Step one
A short guided match finds the pitch of your tinnitus. Headphones on, slide until the tone sounds like your ringing, then check the octave, because many people land an octave off.

Sound that fits
The notch can only remove sound that is there. Aural Rest rates all fifteen sounds against your saved pitch, and Best for my tone shows the ones that suit notched listening, best first.

Your music
Browse all the music on your phone by song, artist, album or playlist, and hear it with your tone notched out. Notch on or off is one tap, from any screen.

See it working
Fourteen full-screen views move with your music or sleep sounds, and every one shows the notch: a dashed ghost in the notch color marks exactly what was taken out.

Nights
Fifteen live sounds generated on the phone, so nothing ever loops, plus gentle tone pads at 432, 528 and 963 Hz. Layer several, notched or plain, all night or on a timer that slowly winds the sound down, quieter and softer, as you drift off.

Stay with it
Notched listening is a habit. Aural Rest counts your daily minutes from music, sounds and sleep, and a short weekly check-in tracks loudness, bother and sleep.

Three steps, and the app walks you through each one.
With headphones in a quiet room, slide until the tone sounds like your tinnitus, check the octave, and save. A few matches on different days make it accurate.
Play your music or a sleep sound. The band around your pitch is removed automatically, at a comfortable, moderate volume.
An hour or two a day, plus notched sleep sounds overnight if you like. Progress keeps count and a weekly check-in tracks how you feel.
No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. Your tone matches, check-ins, listening time and music stay on your phone. The app never sends your information anywhere. Read the privacy policy.
Aural Rest does not diagnose, treat or cure tinnitus, and research on notched sound has shown mixed results. Keep the volume comfortable. See a doctor if your tinnitus is in one ear, came on suddenly, pulses with your heartbeat, or comes with hearing loss or dizziness.
Yes. Every feature is free, with no ads. You can leave an optional tip through Google Play to support development; tips unlock nothing.
For matching your tone, yes: headphones give the most accurate result. For listening and sleep sounds, headphones or the phone speaker both work, and the app adjusts the notch to suit.
Sound with a band around your tinnitus pitch removed. The idea comes from tinnitus research (Okamoto, Pantev and colleagues, 2010). Later studies have had mixed results (Stein et al., 2016), so Aural Rest presents it as a listening option, not a cure. Full references are in the guide.
The app rates every sleep sound against your saved pitch and can show only the best matches. Broad sounds such as rain, waterfall, white and pink noise suit most tinnitus pitches; deep sounds such as fan or airplane cabin are better for masking and sleep.
On many phones, yes. Turn on Notch other music apps in Settings. It depends on the player announcing its audio to Android, which most major players do.
It stays on your phone. There is no account, no analytics and no tracking. The only internet use is Google Play’s purchase system, if you choose to tip.
